'THE LIGHT-KEEPERS LODGE'
GALLERY

LOCAL AREA

There are plenty of attractions to visit and restaurants to dine at nearby. The city of Newport is only a 10 minute drive away, and Cardiff (the capital of Wales) a 30 minute drive. If you fancy a walk, there is the local pub, 'The Lighthouse Inn', which is a 15-20 minute walk along the sea wall footpath.

PLACES OF INTEREST

Tredegar House is a beautiful National Trust property located only a short distance away from the lighthouse. In fact, the land the lighthouse was built on once belonged to the aristocratic family who lived there.
Other places of interest include, the romantic Castle Coch and the castles of Caldicot, Chepstow, Raglan, Cardiff, & the largest in Wales Caerphilly Castle, The Transporter Bridge, Tintern Abbey, the coal mine 'Big Pit', Dyffryn Gardens and Arboretum, National Museum Cardiff, St. Fagans National History Museum, and plenty more.
PUBS & RESTAURANTS

Local pubs include The Dragonfly and Y Maerun. A short drive away is Newport's Friars Walk which has many restaurants including Bistro Pierre. If you are looking for something special we would recommend Junction 28 (below), which includes a converted rail carriage in the restaurant - if you can, get a booth seat in the carriage.
In Cardiff, there are nearly 1000 restaurants to choose from, but The Clink is rated No. 1 and is perhaps the most unusual - it is operated by a chairty inside Cardiff Prison and staffed by prisoners working towards employment upon release! Park House is based in a wonderfully Gothic building. If you are looking for somehwere in Cardiff for lunch, we would recommend Pettigrew Tea Rooms near Bute Park & Sophia Gardens - they do a charmingly informal afternoon tea, but it is best to book in advance for weekends.

ACTIVITIES

There are many great walks and mountain bike trails in the area, including Cwmcarn Forrest Drive, Fourteen Locks, Twmbarlwm, The Wetlands Reserve (great for bird watching) and the Coastal Path which you can of course join just outside.
There is Springfield Riding Stable in the village. Boulders Climbing Centre is around 20 minutes away. Wales Outdoors does a wide range of activites like archery, surfing, kayaking and abseiling. A good one for children (and adults) would be the local trampoline park.
If you are a fan of golf, we have the world renowned Celtic Manor Resort 20 minutes away which hosted the 2010 Ryder Cup, or the more local Peterstone Lakes Golf Course where there is also fishing, which is 10 minutes away.
